Snowpocalypse - The Class 3 Kill Storm (As seen by NJ)

I said before that I'd post an update when I got home, and an update I shall post!

We in central NJ are getting blasted with snow right now. I just got home from work, which is normally a 40 minute drive. It took me 2 hours and 20 minutes today. I was so bored I was almost falling asleep sitting in traffic. Lets recap from the beginning.

This is what our lot at work looked like when I went out for lunch at 11am. Wasn't to bad, roads were just barely covered.

Around 1pm I see DOODON2WHLS post !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , which pretty much shows that every road in New Jersey is at "you're fucked" levels of traffic. So I finish up some things for the day and leave a half hour early.

1:30, I take two steps outside and immediately go "ah shit!" as my shoe sinks through the snow. Wow did it get deep in just a few hours

Right....

My drive starts out okay, not many cars on the road. I'm going up the left lane while almost everyone hangs to the right.

No I spoke to soon... Traffic... Also, who the hell decides to drive a RV in a blizzard?

I finally make it to the garden state parkway (exit 117 for you locals, and I had to make it to 440).

Southbound traffic was gridlock the entire time, but northbound was smooth sailing in the express side. Local side had cars but was still moving.

I took 440 to 513, and this is where I sat in traffic basically until I got home.

I caught this guy in a 92-96 F150 blasting up an unpaved road by the army reserve base

513, route 1, and route 18 were all packed.

This didn't help the situation any. I am not sure what happened, but the guy in the truck was putting chains on the solara to get it out of the road.

I cut though an empty strip mall and took some industrial roads to get away from route 18. Apparently I wasn't the only one who decided to leave work early, and I'm sure its going to suck all through the night. To all you tri-state opponauts, stay safe out there.

Here is my street as of a half hour ago, I'll go clear the walks when it slows down.

Oh, and I grew up just up the road in Morristown. Going off your exits and route numbers you're where....Edison, Plainfield areas?

Here's how my day went (in Newark)

6am - Leave for clinical rotations. First day of the semester, but a storms a brewin'. I smell it in the air.

8am - Clouds. It's almost here.

10am - White stuff. And it's not cocaine.

11am - Already an inch. Classes canceled, we get to go home from our clinicals after finishing work.

12pm - Traffic out of Newark is bad. 5mph max. RWD cars spinning out all over the place. I could be next with my summer tires.

1pm - Finally on the Parkway (exit 140). Estimated time to get home without snow: 15 minutes.

2pm - Get to my exit.

2:30pm - actually make it home (Exit 131)

I love me some white stuff, but we're getting completely blasted. Its like mother nature just jizzed all over NJ, and it's not even over yet.

Bah I was close.

Don't worry though, we've had more snow that you guys have (I still talk to the Morristown guys) so far this year...and I daily drive a FWD Mercury Milan V6.

thank god everything is flat as a board here. If I was still in Morristown area I would have 4x4.

Ha, I haven't been back in...how long has it been now.....7...8... years

I stopped living there full time when I started at Michigan State in Fall 04. Winter 07 my parents moved to South Carolina so I didn't go back to Morristown after school. Ended up staying in Michigan. Kinda miss it though.
